Informationen about the film: Love, Work and Knowledge. The Life and Trials of Wilhelm Reich.

“We are happy to present the new documentary about the life of Wilhelm Reich as part of the pre-congress.
The film, completed by Kevin Hinchey and Glenn Orkin in 2017, has been shown only once before in Germany. It portrays the life and work of Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957), founder of body psychotherapy, companion of and antipode to Sigmund Freud, psychoanalyst, physician, sexual reformer, communist, social scientist and natural scientist. This is the first film to comprehensively portray Reich’s life and scientific biography.
Documentary footage and interviews with experts and contemporary witnesses illustrate his life journey being shaped by war, conflict, persecution and – ultimately – loneliness. It eventually took him from Galicia via Vienna, Berlin, Scandinavia to the United States, where he died in prison at the age of 60. Reich’s sociocritical work – like his “Mass Psychology of Fascism“, first published in 1933 – is in times of increasing right-wing populism politically highly up to date.

After the film there will be a discussion: Moderation: Manfred Thielen. Participants: Andreas Peglau, Marc Rackelmann and last but not least the audience.
Date: 5.9.18 7:00 p.m.
Location: Hörsaal 1a, “Silberlaube”, Habelschwerdter Allee 45, 14195 Berlin
