Basic Emotions , Pulsation and self-regulation

It was Alexander Lowen’s credo, that a solid identity , based on a strong self requires three central capacities  of :
self-perception =    awareness and perception of the physical body , as the home of basic feelings
self-expression =    expressing feelings of pleasure as well as pain  and
self-possesion
=      the ability to contain ( self-regulate ) feelings and express them appropriately

I will focus in this workshop on some “traditional bioenergetic tools” , e.g. the stool , kicking , racket, grounding and on the paramount importance of the vibratory response of the organism. I will explain and partly demonstrate , how each of these tools can be useful in the process of re-contacting and integrating the above mentioned  competencies.
I will also discuss how this re-integration and re-organization can be facilitated by co- and self-regulation in the therapeutic process, using the above mentioned tools and how this can be looked at in the shade of  the current knowledge of neurobiology, trauma and emotion research.
The workshop is designed both self-experiential and didactic.

The workshop will be held in English.

A touch of voice

Touch is an important element within BP. We cannot only touch with our hands, but also with our gaze and voices. The effects of voices are not so often a subject in our teachings and therapies. This workshop will give a taste of how character structures [also of the therapist] can be heard and felt in the tone of voice and what effect it can have upon the communication and contact.
This is a mainly experiential workshop with some brief explanation of character structures that I work with.

The workshop will be held in English.

Body Sense – The Body Code
Clinical Application of Body Psychotherapy

The “Body Code” is a navigational aid for travelling in each person’s life-story, linking character traits, evolutive stages, relational bodily levels and cerebral areas. Revealing our Embodied Intelligence and the dialogue between the central nervous system and the body’s “peripherical interfaces”, informs us of  acquired “Body Sense”, even in Psychotherapy and Psychopathology.
This theoretical, experiential workshop provides operative grammar-system which maybe integrated by participants in their own practices.
During the session, they will see and experience embodied activation (actings), and clinical-analytical Supervision suggesting Appropriate Embodied Activations for that patient, their life-story, trait mind and trauma.

The workshop will be held in English and Italian

The Therapist’s Body:
Using our own Embodied Self-Awareness as a Guide to Working with Clients

What happens when we bring our own embodied self-awareness into our work with clients? What might the client be experiencing when we feel despairing or hopeful, irritable or pleased, bored or interested, sleepy or excited, distracted or attentive, tense/anxious or relaxed? The goals of this workshop are: (1) To recognize when we and our clients are genuinely in our embodied self-awareness rather than in a thought process about ourselves or the other;  (2) To understand how the psychophysiology of embodied self-awareness aids recovery; and (3) To accept and expand the therapist’s embodied self-awareness to create a therapeutic somatic resonance with clients.

The workshop will be held in English.

FACING ALIENATION – REDISCOVERING VITALITY AND FLOW – OUR TODAY CHALLENGES OF FEELING AND SENSING

How do we feel our alienation? How do we experience our own vitality? Can we feel our energy flow?
The work of Elsa Gindler influenced Wilhelm Reich.
Charlotte Selver brought it to the U.S. This presentation will be experiential.
“Gindler Work” or “Sensory Awareness,” is the simple, active practice of “being more whole”.
Without any techniques, it encourages us to feel and work freely with what we experience — with our whole beings.
This work can easily be integrated into psychotherapeutic practices.  It can help ground other various work that can be used with any age and in myriad situations.

The workshop will be held in English.

Judyth O. ROOTED TALKING

A key technique in Biodynamic Psychotherapy is helping a client notice the sensations and impulses arising as he speaks.  We invite him to ‘Feel your hand…’ then ‘See what it wants to do…’.  What ‘it’ wants to do may feel safer, far less shaming, than what ‘I’ might want to do. By postponing the ego we bypass the superego, and having permitted that impulse, our client may then be ready to acknowledge it as his own.
After a demonstration, participants work in small groups to experiment with this unusual ‘it-level’ language.

The workshop will be held in English and German.

Clover Southwell – I studied Biodynamic Psychotherapy with Gerda Boyesen and her family in the 1970s and was heavily involved in the development of her Centre in Acton Park. After Gerda’s death, I was a founding director of the new Centre for Biodynamic Psychotherapy. Having taught this work worldwide, I am now mainly in London, writing and giving therapy and supervision.
